EPF withdrawals 2026: what you can take out of each account, and when
What each EPF account pays out for in 2026: Akaun Fleksibel at any time, Akaun Sejahtera for housing, education, health and Hajj, Akaun Persaraan from 55.

The short answer. Since 11 May 2024, the contributions of EPF members under 55 are split three ways: 75% to Akaun Persaraan, 15% to Akaun Sejahtera and 10% to Akaun Fleksibel (The Star, 25 Apr 2024). Akaun Fleksibel can be withdrawn at any time, for any reason, from RM50. Akaun Sejahtera pays out for set purposes: housing, education, health, Hajj, and once between ages 50 and 54. Akaun Persaraan stays locked until 55, apart from incapacity, death, leaving the country for good, or savings above RM1.1 million. At 55, all three accounts are merged and can be withdrawn (MyGOV portal, updated 21 Oct 2026).
A note on sources: the EPF’s own website, kwsp.gov.my, refused our automated checks on 28–29 October 2026. We did not try to get around this. The figures below come from the government’s MyGOV portal, press reports quoting the EPF or ministers, and, where marked, conditions from a 2024 version of the EPF’s own pages. Rules marked (not yet confirmed from the official page) should be confirmed in i-Akaun before you rely on them.
How contributions are split
| Account | Formerly | Share of each contribution | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Akaun Persaraan | Account 1 | 75% | Retirement, locked until 55 |
| Akaun Sejahtera | Account 2 | 15% | Housing, education, health, Hajj, age 50 |
| Akaun Fleksibel | new in May 2024 | 10% | Any purpose, any time |
On a total monthly contribution of RM1,000 (employee plus employer), RM750 goes to Persaraan, RM150 to Sejahtera and RM100 to Fleksibel (RinggitPlus, 24 Apr 2026). Balances that existed before May 2024 stayed in the first two accounts; Akaun Fleksibel started at zero.
You can move money one way only: Fleksibel to Sejahtera or Persaraan, and Sejahtera to Persaraan, at an EPF office (Form KWSP 12) (not yet confirmed from the official page). Money cannot be moved back into Fleksibel; the one-time transfer from Sejahtera ended on 31 August 2024.
Akaun Fleksibel: any time, from RM50
- Who. Members under 55 with savings in the account.
- How much. At least RM50 per withdrawal, up to the balance (The Star, 25 Apr 2024). No documents and no approval: apply in the i-Akaun app or at a branch, and the money goes to your bank account (RinggitPlus, 24 Apr 2026).
- Timing and checks. The KWSP page as copied in 2024 said payment is made within seven working days of approval, online applications are generally accepted up to RM30,000, and a thumbprint check at an EPF terminal is needed above RM10,000 for a first withdrawal or new bank details (not yet confirmed from the official page).
- What members actually did. By 31 May 2026, 5.5 million members had withdrawn RM19.87 billion, and RM14.36 billion remained in the accounts (New Straits Times, 10 Jul 2026). In an EPF study covering May 2024 to October 2025, 56% of members who had not withdrawn said their balance was too low (The Star, 10 Apr 2026).
The same dividend rate applies to all three accounts. Money withdrawn stops earning from the day it leaves. For the dividend history of the Shariah option, see our Simpanan Shariah dividend history.
Akaun Sejahtera: set purposes
All of these require you to be under 55, except the age-50 withdrawal, which is for ages 50 to 54.
- Age 50. Once only, between 50 and 54: part or all of Akaun Sejahtera (MyGOV portal).
- Housing withdrawal: buying a house. At least RM500 in the account; a residential unit bought from a developer, on the subsale market or at auction; no earlier housing withdrawal unless that property has been sold; sale agreement less than three years old. The amount you can take is set by the EPF and capped at your Akaun Sejahtera balance (KWSP, Buy House Withdrawal) (conditions taken from a 2024 version of the page, not yet re-checked).
- Housing withdrawal: building a house. Same balance and first-house rules, and a construction agreement less than three years old (KWSP, Build House Withdrawal) (conditions taken from a 2024 version of the page, not yet re-checked).
- Education. For you or your children: Certificate Level 3, diploma or higher, at an institution on the EPF’s list (overseas: full-time only), and not fully sponsored. Up to the tuition fees or the whole account, whichever is lower, each semester or academic year (KWSP) (not yet confirmed from the official page).
- Health. Treatment of an EPF-listed critical illness, or approved medical equipment, for you, your spouse, children, parents or siblings, where the employer does not cover it all. Up to the actual cost or the whole account (KWSP) (not yet confirmed from the official page).
- Hajj. Since 1 January 2026, up to RM10,000 (previously RM3,000), and the EPF no longer checks your Tabung Haji balance (The Star, 1 Jan 2026). You need an official Hajj offer from Lembaga Tabung Haji (WeirdKaya, 1 Jan 2026).
Akaun Persaraan: from 55, with few exceptions
- Before 55. No withdrawal, including for Hajj, the Deputy Finance Minister told Parliament (New Straits Times, 28 Oct 2024).
- Above RM1.1 million. Members under 55 can withdraw savings above RM1.1 million in 2026, RM1.2 million in 2027 and RM1.3 million in 2028 (WargaBiz, 2 Jan 2026).
- At 55. The three accounts are merged into Akaun 55. You can leave it, take part or take all (MyGOV portal).
- At 60. Contributions received after 55 go into Akaun Emas, which can be withdrawn only from 60 (same source).
- Monthly instead of all at once (i-Emas). From 55 or 60, you can take monthly payments of at least RM100 (RM1,200 a year), for at least 12 months or until age 100. What you leave in keeps earning dividends (RinggitPlus, 20 Oct 2026).
- Incapacity, death, leaving Malaysia for good. These allow withdrawal from all accounts; on death, savings go to your nominees or heirs (KWSP). The detailed conditions differ by case and by citizenship (not yet confirmed from the official page).

Basic Savings: the benchmark for your age
Basic Savings is a target balance in Akaun Persaraan for each age. It is not a withdrawal limit. Under the Retirement Income Adequacy framework in force since 1 January 2026, the full target is RM390,000 at 60, with two higher tiers of RM650,000 and RM1.3 million (The Star, 1 Jan 2026).
The target is being phased in. RinggitPlus, citing the EPF’s i-Invest page, gives these 2026 amounts (RinggitPlus, 1 Oct 2026):
| Age | 25 | 30 | 35 | 40 | 45 | 50 | 55 | 60 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Savings, 2026 | RM11,000 | RM26,300 | RM47,000 | RM74,000 | RM108,000 | RM150,000 | RM203,000 | RM270,000 |
The same source says the amount at 60 rises by RM30,000 a year to reach RM390,000 in 2030. A December 2024 report had given a faster path: RM290,000 in 2026, RM340,000 in 2027 and RM390,000 in 2028 (Utusan, 13 Dec 2024) (not yet confirmed from the official page). Your own figure is shown in i-Akaun.
i-Saraan: voluntary contributions with a government incentive
i-Saraan is for Malaysians under 60 who have no fixed monthly income, such as the self-employed and gig workers.
- Incentive. The government adds 20% of what you contribute in the year, up to RM500 a year and RM5,000 over a lifetime. The rate rose from 15% under Budget 2025 (The Star, 14 Mar 2025) and the scheme continues in 2026 (Sinar Daily, 10 Oct 2025).
- What it takes to get the full RM500. RM2,500 of contributions in the year, by our arithmetic (RM500 ÷ 20%).
- In 2024, the government paid RM114.8 million in incentives to 529,667 members (The Star, 14 Mar 2025).
- i-Saraan Plus, from 1 January 2026, for e-hailing and p-hailing drivers registered through their platform: 20%, up to RM600 a year and RM6,000 over a lifetime. It continues under Budget 2027 (Bernama, 9 Oct 2026).
- i-Suri, for homemakers: 50% up to RM300 a year and RM3,000 over a lifetime; the age limit went from 55 to 60 in 2026 (The Star, 1 Jan 2026).
Voluntary contributions follow the same withdrawal rules as the rest of your savings. Those made after 55 go into Akaun Emas.
What changed in 2026, and what is announced
- 1 January 2026: Hajj limit to RM10,000; savings above RM1.1 million withdrawable before 55; Retirement Income Adequacy benchmarks; i-Saraan Plus; i-Suri up to age 60 (The Star, 1 Jan 2026).
- May 2026: monthly payments at 55 and 60 renamed i-Emas. i-Legasi lets members aged 55 and over transfer savings above RM650,000 to the EPF account of a spouse or child under 60 (RinggitPlus, 12 May 2026).
- 2027: the threshold for withdrawing excess savings before 55 rises to RM1.2 million. Budget 2027 provides for automatic EPF membership for Malaysians at 18 (Bernama, 9 Oct 2026); no start date had been given when we checked (not yet confirmed from the official page).
- 2028: excess-savings threshold RM1.3 million.
No change to the withdrawal ages of 50, 55 and 60 had been announced as of 29 October 2026.

What we do not cover
- No advice. We do not say whether, when or how much to withdraw, or whether to contribute voluntarily.
- No comparison with interest-based products. We do not compare EPF savings or withdrawals with bank deposits or interest-bearing financing.
- Dividends. We cover the Shariah option only, on a separate page: Simpanan Shariah dividend history.
- Zakat. Whether zakat applies to EPF savings or withdrawals is a question for your state religious authority.
- Non-citizens and special cases. Rules for foreign workers, pensionable employees and divorce claims are not covered here.
- Forms and documents. Each withdrawal has its own document list; check it in i-Akaun.
