MM2H: From Single Tier to Premium Strategy
The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program underwent significant reform in 2021, transitioning from a single-tier system (RM 350k deposit, RM 10k/month income) to a three-tier structure designed to attract higher-net-worth applicants while maintaining accessibility for genuine retirees.
The reform addressed concerns about speculative applicants and underutilized visas. The new system segments applicants by financial capacity: Premium (RM 5M) targets ultra-HNW seeking fast-track processing and work authorization, Platinum (RM 2M) balances prestige with accessibility, and Silver (RM 1M) maintains the original program’s spirit for retirees 50+.
Historical data shows 45-53% of MM2H holders are Chinese nationals, with Western markets (France, UK, US, Belgium, Switzerland) significantly underrepresented. This creates an “ocean blue” opportunity for Western advisors and applicants seeking less competitive processing queues.

PVIP: Alternative Investor Visa
The Premium Visa for Investment Programme (PVIP) provides an alternative route to Malaysian residence for investors unable or unwilling to meet MM2H fixed deposit requirements. Instead of passive bank deposits, PVIP requires active investment of RM 5M+ in approved categories.
Eligible investments: Real estate (residential RM 2M+ or commercial), Malaysian government bonds, listed equities on Bursa Malaysia, private equity in Malaysian companies (with MIDA approval), or Fixed Deposits. Unlike MM2H, PVIP includes work authorization without additional permits, making it attractive for entrepreneurs establishing Malaysian operations.
Processing timeline: 90-120 days. Validity: 10 years (renewable). Includes spouse and unmarried children under 21. No age restrictions. No monthly income requirement beyond demonstrating financial capacity for the RM 5M investment.
PVIP Investment Options
IPMI: Mandatory Health Insurance
All MM2H applicants must secure International Patient Medical Insurance (IPMI) before visa approval.
